Busan 3D2N (I)
okay to be honest i'd been dreading blogging about the busan trip cause its 3d2n hahaha and there are so many things to cover.kaykay so at the summer school our school week ends on thursdays and fridays are for field trips right. so for this week, the field trip is to everland, a famous themepark in korea. as i'd been dying to go to busan and don't really fancy themeparks since i don't take roller coasters, i'd already set my mind on going to busan on friday. actually i had a feeling that sop wanted to go to everland on friday before going down to busan with yechean, jj and brian (a.k.a JB) on saturday. then i suggested that i could go down alone first before meeting up with them on saturday when they reached (i'm all for alone time and at that time i still wasn't that close to JB so i didn't see a need to stick together all the time) but sop decided to go down with me on friday. anyway this whole backstory is just to say sorry to sop for making her miss that everland experience cause of me. ANWZ. there are many modes of transport to get from Seoul to Busan (Korea is just super well connected. i'm so impressed.) : 1) plane (obviously out of the question cause its the most expensive option) 2) bus 3) Train and we chose to take option 3, train. to take a train there, you can choose to take : 3(a) KTX - their bullet train, very fast, very comfortable seats, free wifi on the train but costs you 50 plus for a single trip from seoul to busan (about 2 hours) 3(b) Mulgonghwa - the older train which costs half the price but takes twice as long. in the end we chose to take mulgonghwa from seoul to busan since we have so much time and ktx back since we'll probably be tired from the trip by then and want to get back asap (awesome planning right, thanks thanks). the mulgonghwa train wasn't that bad BUT the train ride was like 5 hours. sit until our butts pain hahaha. the view was so nice though. andddd its all worth it to get to my satoori paradise~~~~ once we reached busan, we took a train (busan's metro) to some station where we then took a bus that would bring us to gamcheon cultural village(a.k.a that colourful village that we always see that is filled with wall paintings?! yay excited.). okay so the bus was this mini bus thing much like those shuttle bus that brings people to condos or SGH or like those small school buses (you all know what i'm talking about?) and the bus was quite crowded so we didn't get a seat. and let me say this, that kind of bus are not made for people to stand in as there are no poles nor handles or anything and the road up to the gamcheon village was 1) curvy and 2) up a steep hill. lol do you guys see where i'm going with this. sop was at the back of the bus while i was at the front, in the middle of the door, the driver and a seat with an ahjumma and i was holding on to the seat for my dear life while the bus drove up those bends and slopes. i think i lost my balance twice, once towards the driver and once into the lap of the ahjumma and i guess the ahjumma really kan bu xia qu because she stood up and gave me and my fat flowery backpack the seat instead hahaha. and apparently an ahjumma who was sitting down held sop's backpack for her loll. anyways, the gamcheon village was really pretty, artsy and colourful. it was really hot that day though so i guess that was the day that i turned dark. there were a lot of steep slopes and steep flights of staircases woven among houses that are on a hill. omg just realised that i have super little photos ): the rest are probably lost forever as my s3 died and sop's comp died. ))): the one picture that everyone MUST take when they are at busan/gamcheon village. hahahaha. and we took a few photos with the art pieces. while winding past people's houses~ i can't imagine how inconvenient it is to be living here, having to climb these steps and slopes and winding here and there. it would be so easy to get lost! on the right, its sop with one of the nice wall paintings and on the left is me and an ahjumma who was sitting outside the narrow walkway while we were walking past her house and we stopped to play with her fluffy white dog and i wanted to take a picture with her and her dog but the dog changed its mind at the last minute hahaha. the ahjumma is really nice though~~~ old people in busan are really naise~~~
in one of the houses which was emptied to display some artworks. it was so cool (figuratively and literally because the aircon in the house was sweet relief to us who had been walking under the hot sun).
oh oh i just remembered something. when we first arrived at the village, we came across this poor little kitten which seem to have been abandoned by its mama cat cause it is blind. it was like hiding behind the wheel of this parked motorcycle and i remember wanting to carry it out for some reason but it heard some noise and ran away before i managed to reach its position between the bikes.
forgot how we got from the village to the train station (another bus?) but here we are, chilling at a cafe with some ice coffee. oh wait or was this before we went to gamcheon village. no i think it was after. anyway, we were at this subway station which was air conditioned and underground and where sop made her specs at at one of the specs shop, which 1) only took 30 minutes to make 2) was only like 30 plus i think? it seriously made me question myself like why had i been paying 100 plus for my specs all these while and why do i have to wait so long like a week or so when it can be done in 30 minutes in a tiny shop?! damn it korea, raising my standards once again. anyway, i think after the specs were made we asked the shop owners like whats nice to eat around there and they told us about this shop so we kinda walked towards there and then we got distracted by the shopping which was cheaper than in Seoul (awesome~~~~ except for the fact that we were backpacking and our backpacks were sorta alr packed to the brim) and somewhere along the way we felt really hungry and saw this random korean food restaurant so we went in and we ordered 2 sets of their set meal thing and a bottle of makgeolli which turned out to be A LOT OF FOOD.
okay it doesn't look like a lot of food but there were a lot. i can promise you that hahaha.
for about 15 bucks per person, we get bulgogi, a soup, some ban chan, chap chae, bossam, fried fish, pancakes, salad etc but the most memorable part of the dinner, other than the very very hospitable ahjummas who served us, was THIS.
rice was served to us in this hot stone pot and the ahujumma scooped out some 3/4 of the rice for us into the metal bowl
and scooped this murky water into the stone pot and covered it. after like 15 minutes the ahjumma came back and uncovered the pot and its a pot of... rice in murky water! okay it doesn't look very impressive BUT. it was awesome. the murky water was some kind of wheat/barley water and the rice left in the stone pot became guo ba (you know, the crusty crispy part stuck to the bottom of the rice pot?) and it was this strange porridge-like thing that was sooooo comforting to eat. idk how to describe it but it is those kind of comfort food that warms your body from inside out? and you're just like "ooo i feel like lying down in some fluffy clouds and nua" kind of feeling. does anyone get what i'm saying or am i just weird? hahaha. anyway this meal was the most worth it one i'd eaten in korea. ----rant ahead---- food in korea is not that expensive as compared to singapore seriously. i mean yes one meal is about 5 or 6 bucks but for 10 bucks you can get better food. and this whole table of good food for 15 bucks per person omg. in sg although you can get hawker food for about 3 or 4 bucks but if you want to eat something better it immediately shoots up to beyond 10 bucks. am i wrong? a plate of cafe food costs like what, 18?! and its like eggs and bread and veg and maybe a piece of meat zzz. ----end of rant---- after dinner we went to shop somemore although it was already night. shopping in busan is cheaper andddd there are a lot of guy clothes and they're not ex!! in sg, the guy clothes are pretty ex and limited so i can sort of understand why guys just can't be bothered to dress up here. after shopping we went to check in at our hostel, which was quite cool, other than the fact that their bathroom has no cubicles. imagine a giant bathroom with all those showerheads and no cubicles. one of the things i can't get used to in korea is definitely this shared bathroom thing. okay but leave the ranting for other posts when i had to deal with worse situations. good thing was, by the time we checked in it was already like 10 or 11? so there weren't a lot of people who were going to shower so sop and i just took turns to stand outside while the other person is showering. yepyeps, i guess thats it for the first day and night of busan~ the pretty view during the train ride featuring sop's bottle, her phone and the sound of us chewing and breathing lol. also the place where we saw the kitten. the people in the video are strangers. the last announcer-like voice at the end is actually from this lorry that is driving around, selling fish hahahahaha. so cool.
